 2018 Preview 


       Francis Marion completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Francis Marion just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region four with a 2-4 region record.

       The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018.

       Francis Marion was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.8 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Francis Marion football program has struggled with a record of 23-58.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Francis Marion has not won much with a record of 73-169. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 1A and 337th in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2000.




       The Rams are led by head coach Grady Griffin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Francis Marion. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griffin.

       Coach Griffin's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%).

       The Francis Marion Rams will play in Class 1A region three during the 2018 season. The Rams may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region three this year.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Rams if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season.

       The Rams open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, August 31 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 2A region four. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Ariton by a score of 44-14.

       Francis Marion and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Rams have a 32-12-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2017 with R.C. Hatch winning by a score of 22-12.
